Re: Master of Orion II: Battle at Antares
Oh, Lubricus, the answer why people want graphics is simple: they're pretty. "Ooooh, look what cool pix I got, man!" "Check my graphics card, huh". For good gameplay you need a certain amount of intelligence. Initially, only (well, okay, mainly) intelligent people had PCs: ZX81, ...

Re: Master of Orion II: Battle at Antares
Yes - MOO 3 did what most games are doing these days: focus on pretty graphics, ignore the rest. This is probably done because it allows for pretty screenshots. Since most reviewers (in the magazines, at least) are usually simply bought, this allows you to have great reviews with lots of very nice p...

Re: races of the wizards
Can we PLEASE block this moronic creep and kick out both his messages? They're identical, and he's trying to advertise some 'massage' parlour. Thanks. Edit: There was a moron-bot spam post just above this one - and of course Implode kicked that user & his posts out - thanks! (Yes, I'm all...

Re: Galactic Civilization
Squeeeeeeeeeaal! :D I thought they gave up getting a permission for this!
Hey, if anybody can write a real good version of MoM II (even if they have to give it a different name; thanks, Atari!) it's them.
This could be really good :)

Re: .cfg instead of accursed registry entries
Weeeeell, I hate to disagree with you, but most people in my area seem to rather dislike the registry. It gets cluttered very quickly, messes up your reinstalls, and a simple config file is very quick and easy to modify, too. On the other hand, this could all quickly turn completely trivial - I'm de...

Re: didn't notice to-do that need done
Well, not really. What's the full size of the map? 80x60? An A* byte array would take up 4800 Bytes per Stack of units/lone unit wanting to move. And the array would be smaller anyway, as you'd limit it to the accessible parts - i.e. my spearmen are only interested in walking this island, not the en...

Galactic Civilization
Hi! I keep hearing that you want to create the AI entirely without cheating, and that commercial companies are simply not interested in things like this. Well, it turns out that there's one company which is: Stardock. http://www.galciv.com/ These two games have been accused of cheating quite a few t...

Re: didn't notice to-do that need done
Actually, you can build a 2D-value grid using the A* algorithm for each unit wanting to move to a given destination. This way, you only have to recalc that array if the surroundings change: * More map found * Map tile on our route changed * Enemy unit on route * Enemy city placed on route * ...etc T...

.cfg instead of accursed registry entries
Hi! Yes, you were asked something along these lines some time ago, in a locked post  However, I would like to add my opinion to this: registry entries are a waste of time, and make moving the game needlessly difficult. Imagine I'm re-installing Windows, as I usually have to do every six or eig...

Re: 0.9.3 released
Hi PatentMC, I'd suggest you get yourself the PDF of the original Master of Magic handbook. I could email it to you, but it would probably be faster for you to simply google for it. For example, looking for this: "master of magic" handbook pdf will get you links to both handbooks (second o...

Re: didn't notice to-do that need done
6) units with movement of 1 avoid mountains Erk, yeah, I know... but taking that into account in the movement routine is VERY difficult. The original MoM actually worked exactly the same way. This is probably a foolish question, but... why is this so difficult? I'm currently writing Yet-Another-Tow...

Re: Production suggestion
Oooh, I agree. Being able to have a building queue would be great: would allow us to say "Build this, this, and this building, then create these creatures, and after this the following building".
Would save us a fair amount of time. :D

Handbook
Hi (again!) Say, are there any plans for a handbook? I know, we always find the original handbook + spell list in PDF format, but a unique handbook might just be nice. Especially as your version has some changes, and the original handbook does not exactly blow me away - for example, a node gr...

Re: Installation Question/Issue
Speaking of installs: how about a second version to download, consisting simply of a ZIP file? The ZIP has everything in a subdir called MOM_<version>, you unzip, done. This would also make it easy to carry the game with you by simply installing onto a USB stick. By the way, has anybody tried to ins...

Re: Just played 0.9.3 and some comments
Whooo, I agree with nearly the entire post - in fact, I wanted to post on most of these points myself :D One thing I do not agree with: scrolling the map using the left mouse button. Let's not change the UI too much - but perhaps a [Ctrl]+[LMouse] wou d do the trick? Because esper256 *is* right, you...
