Re: purist game
I think dark elves are more fun as slave races than as starting races. I love the unique units they have, because night blades are perfect for defending nodes or choke points on roads (just keep hitting done so the enemy gives up and leaves) and I love the warlocks and priests for more serious defen...

Re: The perfect team
Mind storm doesn't work on everything, sadly, although what you can do is build the staff of -4 resistance and then two amulets of -4 resistance. The bonuses stack, so maxed out your hero can disintegrate anything less than 22, 27 if you can throw mind storm on it. That's pretty much everything exce...

Re: 10656
Other ways you can destroy cities without razing them is to run around inside the city with somebody during combat. The effect is much better if that someone is a magic vortex, and decreased if that someone flies. Granted, the enemy wizard won't just let you run around in there without attacking you...

Re: Why chaos magic is weak.
^ Sorcery played right means the other wizards can never cast a spell. Detect magic and spell blast are perfect for preventing things you don't want to happen from happening, plus suppress magic if you are careful around banished wizards in the late game. The combat summons are nice, you've a number...

Re: Undead heroes
While we're at it, hows about we zombify a settler so we can make the necorpolis? (this is a reference to a hoax stating that if you life drained an enemy settler it would become a zombie settler and build a zombie city). Actually, why not create a zombie race? Have skeletons as the base critter (sk...

Re: Starting strategies
I agree with you, but because I always have the spearman go scout, if I get up to seven population I have one rebel (I tax 1.5 or 2 at all times). Therefore, I try to hit the extra production first, plus the +2 food from the foresters guild, so everything else builds faster. That way I spend less ti...

Best heroes?
In your opinions, who are the better heroes to get? Well, Torin obviously. Roland and Elaine are other decent white only heroes. I know nothing of the death heroes, other than that my drakes think they are tasty. Why aren't there green, red, or blue specific heroes? Warrax is amazing. The illusionis...

Broken spells
Didn't see one, if this is a redundant topic I apologize in advance. A list of all the spells I know that don't work like they should or say they do. Raise dead-crashes game, everyone prolly knows that. Call lightning-crashes game, everyone prolly knows that. Vortex-Chaos spell, if you throw too man...

Re: To all impossible mode players
I suggest for impossible you sue one of the broken strategies first, just so you get a feel for the game. Example: Put the game on small land mass. This limits the opponents since they won't have as much room to build ridiculous number so cities. You should also start with only one or two. Don't bot...

Re: Starting strategies
Today must be the day of the necrobump. Anyways. I always go full skill with one or two in research since I always play chaos or sorcery based and chaos with skill of 200 is a fearsome sight indeed. I also go with alchemy and nomads so I can keep up my gold/magic, but also because the initial plus 1...

Re: Armageddon
Sadly, the volcanoes eventually turn into mountains, which means the power increase fluctuates, but those mountains can later become volcanoes themselves so you're still doing well for yourself.
For added fun, steal this spell as a blue mage and then spell blast anyone who tries to disjunct it!

Re: Spell 087 - Wall of Fire
There are countless spells that are contradictory or don't do what they say they do, and a bunch are in the chaos branch. Which stinks for those of us that play chaos. Anyway, wall of fire only has a use when combined with a normal wall to deter flying units from just waltzing into your city. In gen...

Re: Why chaos magic is weak.
I personaly love chaos and only stopped playing it because I wanted more of a challenge. Here's how I play: First off, don't go with 11 in chaos. As tempting as gunning straight for flame strike is, it shafts you over if you have a bad starting position. The point to chaos is long range magic. You d...
