Nice to hear someone else showing interest :) Its playable in that you can build up cities, build buildings and units, research spells, cast summoning spells, put together armies and attack nodes, lairs and towers, and meld your spirits with nodes. However you can't attack other wizards, raiders or ...

With server on another machine it works faster you say? Well, it does when you click Next Turn. I notice if I run then both on the same PC, when I click Next Turn the frame rate on the client takes a huge drop while the server is busy processing the end-of-turn stuff and the AI players' turns. When...

Re: Download-Problem

i try to download master of magic from your site (http://www.roughseas.ca/momime/momime0.8.6.1.msi) and all i get is a text file! That's really weird, unless either I was right in the middle of uploading the new version at the time (unlikely) or you didn't have the Windows Installer (that processes...

It's incredibly slow on my machine though, but i hope there will be more performance increase in the future. Aku, What speed is your PC then? My laptop is a 3 GHz - versions before 0.8.6 were pretty jerky and slow on that, but with the changes I made in 0.8.6 it now runs pretty nicely. Its not perf...

Usually i work on 800x600 because of the very old monitor. But surely there is something wrong there just with the positioning of this window since on a resolution higher than mine only a small bit was visible. Ahhh - thanks for figuring this out :) You're right, the window was set to appear in a p...

So i'll wait for next version. But without being technical i'd run this on your computer, compared logs and found out what the server is calling that isn't called on my machine. Logically there should be a problem over there but that's just my theory :P And BTW nil is also used in Lua script langua...

Terrain graphics (TERRAIN.LBX subfile 0)

The terrain graphics in TERRAIN.LBX aren't in the same graphics format as the rest of the MoM graphics. The format is much simpler. TERRAIN.LBX subfile 0 has a 192 byte header on it - I've no idea what this is for so skip it. Each terrain tile is then made up of An 8 byte header The image data A 4 b...

MoM graphics file format

Each MoM graphics subfile can contain multiple frames (often, but not necessarily, frames of an animation such as the wheel turning on the Sawmill building). Rather than trying to explain the format in detail, I'm just going to post the code I use for reading it. This is adapted from various other s...

Server lock up

Aku, I've put a zip with the debug versions on the downloads page . If you get this, try running the debug server and try to start a game. This should lock up the same way as the regular version. It'll then create a log file - could you email this to me. Regarding the Games folder in the start menu....

LBX file format

The LBX files in the original game are archives containing, similar to ZIP files except that there's no compression. The format of each LBX file is: First 2 bytes indicate the number of subfiles within the LBX file Next 4 bytes are the fixed value hex FEAD (i.e. the actual order of bytes in the file...

Rules for posting bug reports and ideas for enhancements

"Rules" may be a bit of a strong word... but I wanted to make people understand something so please read this. I only get an hour or two to work on MoM IME each night. The longer I spend here reading posts for peoples' suggestions, the less time I'm spending actually working on the game. I'm aware o...
