Re: MoM IME Expanded

My point was that flanking would be easy because we already have facing in the game. Units in combat face in the direction they last moved or attacked. It is simple to use that data for flanking. Not saying every unit should be flankable, but units could have a Flankable ability which would say &quo...

Re: MoM IME Expanded

If I could make their speed 1/2 and make them flank-able, I wouldn't need to do much else other than making them really tough on the front, but that's not MoM. Half movement speed could be implemented by only allowing one square of movement every 2nd turn. Flanking could be implemented based on uni...

Re: MoM IME Expanded

I agree that longer spears should not grant First Strike, but they should grant Negate First Strike.

Re: Fire wall + immolation + firebreathing ?

Hm, re-reading the part of melee combat, seems I wasn't quite right...Wall of Fire and Immolation hits at the same time as normal attacks. Only the fiery breath hits before normal attacks. It doesn't say whether the effect of the fireballs is additive or not, though, or I can't find the place...look...

Re: Fire wall + immolation + firebreathing ?

Wall of Fire is a strength 5 fireball attack. Immolation is a strength 4 fireball attack. Chaos Channels is a strength 2 fiery breath attack. When defending, the Wall of Fire and Immolation hit before normal attacks, against the full shields of the attacking unit. When attacking, Immolation and fier...

.NET and XNA...well, that's a pity.

I really hope you open source it all so that others can port it to be cross-platform.

Re: Dodgy user IDs on the forum

You're thinking of a CAPTCHA. And yeah, they also stop most registrations, but I find them annoying so I try to use alternative methods or very simple CAPTCHAs.

Re: Dodgy user IDs on the forum

Purging accounts is a no-win situation; they can always register. Blocking the actual posts is much more effective. I usually run a 3-step protection: - Cannot register with a URL in your site info. Can put one in later, just can't register with one. This cuts away most spambots and slightly inconve...

Re: A quick primer on how to balance a game and how this applies

Hence the variation in the setups, who gets to shoot first, etc. You can get meaningful results if you control the parameters. I am not suggesting a simple fire-and-forget purely random fight between AIs. While that would be the minimum amount of work, it would also be the most chaotic. Guiding the ...

A lot of those statistics could be automated. Some are even pure math.

Throw AI players against each other over and over, limiting what subset of spells and units they have available. Record results.

Chaos Channels alone allows you to strike hard at everyone. E.g., flying Paladins are beautiful.

Re: Current state of MoM IME

Well then, here is an open offer... If the source and other assets are opened up, I have several servers to throw at the project for hosting repositories (Subversion / Git etc), wiki, bug tracker (Trac etc), game daemons, and whatever else might be needed to get a community going around the project....
