Client or the server won't start

Post by Jackjonez »

Hi,
I'm having serious issues getting the multiplayer edition to work. I know nothing about computer programming so I'm clueless.

I've set the location to the original MoM folder (picked a random LBX file). When I open the server file, I get a pop-up window saying:
"No XML databases found compatible with this version of MoM IME"

When I close it, the program seems to open normally (new game DB is ok, server is running on blah blah blah).

When I try to open the client file, it instantly crashes and I get the "send error report to Microsoft" pop-up.

What can I do to make it work? I have a semi up-to-date computer with Radeon 9800 Pro as graphics card. I use Windows XP professional. My MoM should be 1.31 (I doublechecked this).

-JJ

p.s. Eventhough I'm yet to see how it looks, you've done a brilliant job at bringing an old classic back to life!

Alright worry about this before we try to fix whatever is up with the client. The server is much more stable - for you to be getting this error, it can't have installed correctly.

The above error is nothing to do with the MoM 1.31 LBXes - they're only used by the client (for the graphics).

Is the user account you were logged on with when you installed it an Adminitrator? If not then it shouldn't have even let you install it but maybe something on the install fouled up?

If you still have no luck... do you have MSN messenger, you can initiate remote desktop connections through it so I could actually see your PC?

ok, this is a mystery, but I reinstalled both the multi edition and the original MoM and now it started just fine ;)
